Matthew Fradd is Australian by birth and Catholic by choice. After experiencing a profound conversion at World Youth Day in Rome in 2000, Matthew committed himself to inviting others to know Jesus Christ and the Church He founded. As a missionary in Canada and Ireland, Matthew proclaimed the Gospel to over ten thousand teens and young adults. Matthew has also served the Church through full-time lay ministry in Australia,Ireland, Canada, and Texas. Matthew has been seen or heard on the BBC, EWTN, The Irish Morning Show, and Catholic Answers Live, where he has shared his personal story of sin, redemption, and healing to people all over the world.
Recently, Matthew, his fearless Texan wife, and their three beautiful children (Liam, Avila, and baby on the way) moved to sunny San Diego where Matthew now works as an Apologist and Speaker with Catholic Answers. Matthew best demonstrates his infectious passion for the faith when he speaks about the many wounds that pornography inflicts, the healing that Christ offers in the Sacraments, and the freedom that the Church proposes in Her teachings on the virtue of chastity.
In recent years, Matthew has confronted our pornographic culture and has launched the website www.theporneffect.com. With patient understanding and yet with firm resolve, Matthew has pointed those who are addicted to or who have been wounded by pornography to the only source of true freedom and lasting healing: Jesus Christ and the Sacraments.
Matthew Fradd has been heard or seen on the BBC, EWTN, The Irish Morning Show, and Catholic Answers Live, and he continues to share his personal story of addiction, redemption, and healing to people all over the world.
His talks include:
Taking Down Goliath (Overcoming Pornography) (male audience):
Matt recounts how he became addicted to pornography and how, by the grace of God, broke free from that addiction. He offers 5 practical strategies which he says men must implement if they desire to live lives of heroic purity in a pornographic age. Archbishop Terrence Prendergast said after hearing this talk that "[Matt] proclaims Jesus' message of hope and healing, and he offers concrete, practical advice on ways to break free from pornography's strongholds. I believe Matthew is reclaiming the truth, goodness, and beauty of human sexuality, and I support his work in the Church."
10 Myths Exposed
"It's just harmless entertainment," "She's willing to do it," "It's not like I'm supporting the industry." These and many other myths prevent many of us from seeing pornography for what it truly is: a diabolical counterfeit for love. In this entertaining presentation, Matt exposes what he believes are 10 of the most common myths about porn. Then, Matt untwists the lies, shines light on the darkness, and offers hope to those who are ready reject the counterfeit and embrace the truth. He backs up his arguments with startling statistics, real life stories, and the rock solid wisdom of the Church's teachings on human sexuality.
All young people have at least this is common: they desire joy! Joy is impossible without love, and romantic love is impossible without chastity. In this high-energy presentation, Matthew proposes that the virtue of chastity is for those who desire joy and that any sexual relationship devoid of this virtue will always disappoint. Backed up with compelling statistics and engaging personal stories, Matthew challenges audience members to open their minds and hearts and embrace the Church's teachings on human sexuality.
In the first part of this powerful talk, Matthew doesn't explicitly "teach" the men anything. Rather, he invites the men to listen to powerful, moving, and often-times hilarious stories. Then, he poses questions to show the men, or perhaps even to convince them, that who they desire to be, and who God commands them to be, is in fact the same man. In the second part of his talk, Matthew lays out five rules that every man must break if he wants to fulfill his deepest desires and follow God's commands.
Interview with a porn star:
Matthew often hosts this presentation in a bar through diocesan young adult groups, in an effort to evangelize the general population. In it, he interviews ex-porn star April Garris, and she shares her powerful conversion story and exposes the myths that the porn industry wants people to believe.
